An open letter to anyone who wants to help me monetize

· Paper Covers Rock

Dearest reader,

Like anyone else with an email address, I receive messages from time to time.

Usually, I love a good ear bending.

If you should feel inclined to message me with your earnest suggestions or insights, they will never not be welcome.

But it’s important to me to state clearly and for the record that I am not interested in monetizing this space.

I am a person, not a product.

Through my work, I have accidentally done more than enough to smother the little guy over the years.

And I’ve come to the conclusion that that’s an embarrassment. I no longer want to help big businesses (organizations that already have their fair share of the market) outshout microbusinesses online.

Recently I heard this maxim from writer Axel Munthe that packages it rather tidily:

What you keep for yourself, you lose. What you give away, you keep forever.

I’d like to treat this space as a sort of ground zero for something different 一 something more in line with that spirit.

Which means I don’t want you to incentivize you to do anything here.

And I also do not want your help coercing other people to buy things or buy into me.

So you’ll find no affiliate links or ads or paid promotional material here, and I don’t need help adding any 一 thanks but no thanks.

Anything you read here is entirely mine 一 my opinion, my work, and my life.

Please accept no substitutions.

Yours in mild exasperation,
